Do you have any crazy superstitions?
Do I have any crazy superstitions? Nope! Not even one. June Virginia Wigle had at least one superstition which wasn't a bad superstition necessarily. June was not like the other Wigles. All the other members of the family excluding Mel had a mind towards white society. Robert Rae did not give us insight into what be believed one way or the other. June referred to herself as "the black sheep of the family." She went against the grain. I did too but not necessarily with as much steam. June did major research in the Ontario area going from one graveyard to another with her books and maps and yes, heavens forbid...white chalk.
The chalk was used on the pioneer headstones to bring out the lettering a little clearer so she could put all the names down one by one for references from the earliest settler be he aboriginal or immigrant. June was always looking for her ancestors. She would travel to the United States to Ohio to see Katherine Mallot's photo hanging on a library wall. Katherine being important as a very good lead to the whereabouts of natives travelling in groups with Simon Girty and the Wigles. The Wigles had an aboriginal gen she was sure of it...she could feel it. Frank and Irene did not have this drive. The others, it appears, would rather just forget. It was a very boring subject. I would go with her and play about wondering what type of lives these people had lead.
"We have to leave right now."
"Why?"
"It's getting dark."
June did not stay in graveyards after dark. Perhaps it is the wiser feminine side in her or perhaps it may have been a phobia. "I think that I have found the reason why I have bad luck." It's an expression.
"Why?"
"Because I think when I built this house I may have built in on an aboriginal graveyard."
It was a small thing which kept her up at nights. One son would grow to have what may be called Manic Depression attacks. The older one that looks a little like Patrick Swayzie...serious mega Schetzophrenia. The worse case that has been seen in Ontario at the time. For Patrick Cramp it started in Grade Ten. It started in gym class. He was terrified to undress. He had been doing quite well. He us to be on serious drugs. He wanted to know more about life and accepted a Bible study from a local Windsor Jehovah's witnesses. He blossomed after going off drugs. The elders helped to find him a job. He had a new hair cut. Perhaps it was the fear of going from door to door or being asked to read the Bible in front of people it was just like an explosion. Bang! There was no fooling anyone. He was schetzo! June thinks that maybe the JW's pushed him to hard but not in an unkind way. Pat told me it started in gym. Does going off of drugs bring havoc to the starving brain cells? Unlikely but not ruled out. June says, "it's the house".
Does going off of alcohol bring out the mental problem? "He was fine," insisted his mother, "with the drugs, the long hair and the alcohol...he was fine before he started to study the Bible."
"When is it from a demon?"
